Program Associate – Public Health Preparedness (MRC Project)
The National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO), a national organization representing approximately 3,000 local health departments (LHDs) nationwide, has an immediate opening for a 100% FTE Program Associate to support the Public Health Preparedness Team, Medical Reserve Corps Project. This position is funded through a cooperative agreement from the Office of the Surgeon General, US Department of Health and Human Services.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
This Program Associate position is a member of the Public Health Preparedness primary work team, and contributes to the advancement of local public health practice by working on a variety issues related to improving and strengthening local public health practice and public health preparedness.
General responsibilities include project promotion and marketing; providing technical assistance to Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) units; coordinating work with advisory committees and other NACCHO members; project materials development and dissemination; providing direction to preparedness demonstration sites; and project coordination, including meeting planning and logistics.
NATURE OF WORK
This is a full-time (100%) professional position requiring strong analytical, interpersonal, and writing skills. The work involves partnerships with fellow staff, participation in associated professional organizations and groups, and collaboration with NACCHO member local public health departments. The work also requires the exercise of discretion and independent judgment.
SPECIFIC EXAMPLES OF TYPE OF WORK:
Project Planning, Coordination, and Evaluation
- Serves as staff liaison to members, MRC units, demonstration sites and other partners, in conjunction with the Program Manager and Senior Analyst.
- Coordinates and prepares written summaries of project meetings, including committee meetings, conference calls, and site visits.
- Interfaces between NACCHO, NACCHO members, various committees, partner organizations, and funding agencies.
- Serves as lead staff for specific programmatic activities, when designated by supervisor.
- Coordinates NACCHO’s work with that of other organizations and ensures integration of projects with other NACCHO projects.
- Provides technical assistance to members and demonstration sites.
- Provides input on project proposals, periodic reports to funding agencies, and other documents related to the project.
- Assists with short- and long-term evaluation of program effectiveness and program activities.
Project Promotion
- Develops PowerPoint presentations, brochures, or other marketing materials for use during project-related events and activities.
- Responds to project inquiries from LHDs nationwide.
- Identifies opportunities for marketing the project and assists in implementing promotional activities.
- Updates and maintains key areas of the project Website.
- Drafts relevant reports, factsheets, and articles.
Providing Research Assistance
- Researches and identifies relevant tools, resources, and exercises related to public health preparedness planning and workforce development.
- Tracks current local public health issues related to public health preparedness planning, workforce development, etc.
- Conducts internet research on relevant issues, including those related to training, assessment and planning, and infrastructure.
- Writes and/or revises project-related materials based on research findings.
Other
- Represents NACCHO at meetings, as needed.
- Develops and/or maintains project-related databases.
- Assists with conference planning and implementation.
- Participates actively on assigned teams.
- Performs administrative support tasks, and other duties as assigned.
- NOTE: Some travel required.
Employment Standards
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in relevant professional field with a minimum of two years experience in a public health setting. Master’s Degree in Public Health (MPH) or closely-related field preferred.
Knowledge
- Knowledge of office practices, procedures and equipment
- Demonstrated interest in public health preparedness issues
- Knowledge of public health issues at the local, state and/or federal level
- Preferred: Knowledge of preparedness issues
- Preferred: Experience working in an association environment

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $41,221 to $51,114; salary will be commensurate with experience.
